It’s hard to believe that January has come and gone, but now it’s time for one of our favorite events of the year, and, no, it’s not the Super Bowl (although we do love the Puppy Bowl). Valentine’s Day is coming, and we have delectable dog cakes, amazing organic dog treats and much more to make your dog’s day as sweet as possible.
While some might wonder why a dog needs a treat or dog cake for Valentine’s Day, we don’t ponder these types of questions. At Naked Dog Bistro, we believe that there truly are no better valentines than our wonderful furry friends. With that in mind, take a look at some of what we have to offer, as well as some of our other Valentine ideas for you and your pooch.
Our Organic Dog Cakes
You might be asking yourself, “can dogs eat cake?” Absolutely! At Naked Dog Bistro, we create dog cakes and treats using the finest organic ingredients and everything we use at our dog bakery is safe for dogs. Our treats contain new artificial colors or preservatives, and every dog cake is grain and gluten-free. We use dog-safe ingredients and have two fun options, a 5” round dog cake and our signature 6”x 9” bone-shaped cake, and you can choose from an assortment of flavors.
Custom Dog Cupcakes
Our delectable dog cupcakes are another wonderful option for Valentine’s Day or any special occasion. We custom bake these by the dozen and they are available in regular and mini sizes and just as with our dog cakes, we use safe, organic ingredients that are grain and gluten-free. Dog parents can choose from an assortment of amazing flavors, including peanut butter, bacon, carob chip, carrot, pumpkin or our special Elvis & Cheese flavor.
Freshly Baked Dog Treats
While our cakes and cupcakes require a 48-hour advance notice (24-hour rush orders may be available at an extra charge), we baked homemade, organic dog treats every day in our Naked Dog Bistro kitchen, and these would be an amazing Valentine treat for your special doggie.
Pop into our Laguna Beach dog bakery on any given day, and you will find everything from beautifully decorated dog cookies to dog sushi to doggie French fries. We often have pre-made doggie cupcakes available, as well. As with our custom dog cakes and custom cupcakes, we use organic ingredients, and everything is wholesome and grain and gluten-free.
Toys & Gear
Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to stock up on some new toys, and we have an assortment of options, depending on your dog’s likes and personality. For the posh pooch, our Chewy Vuitton plush handbag or perhaps one of our plush “Barkin” bags would be a good option.
For a dog with simpler tastes, we have some amazing fetch toys, such as our popular flying duck or pig slingshot toys and our flying squirrel toy. We also carry an assortment of colorful tennis balls for the dog that lives by the motto, “ball is life.” In addition to toys, we have collars, harnesses, leashes and plenty of fun bandanas and sweaters, any of which could make an excellent Valentine gift.
Other Options
While dogs love our dog cakes, treats and toys, there are plenty of other fun options to consider for your Valentine’s Day Doggie Celebration. Snuggle up with your dog on the couch under a blanket and watch some rom-coms, such as “Must Love Dogs,” or perhaps “The Truth About Cats and Dogs,” or maybe a classic such as “Lady and the Tramp.”
A nice trip to the dog park is always a good option, or you could take your dog on a walk in a new park or trail. After all, they are used to the scents, squirrels and birds in your neighborhood. Why not mix it up a little bit and sniff around a new area? A trip to Laguna Beach is a dog-friendly option, and you can head to many of our local beaches or walk around Forest Avenue and visit our dog boutique.
You also could bake your own homemade dog treats. There are many excellent recipes online using safe ingredients such as pumpkin, peanut butter and whole-wheat flour. One of our favorite easy recipes is to simply mix two cups of whole wheat flour and two four-ounce jars of baby food. Roll out the dough and cut it into any shape you like and bake for 20-25 minutes in a 350-degree oven.
One word of caution, though, if you do use baby food, stick with purees that are dogs-safe. Ingredients such as grapes, raisins and onions are toxic for dogs. You might opt for applesauce, sweet potato, pumpkin or any meat flavor that does not include onion. Dogs love these treats, and it can be a cozy way to spend Valentine’s Day – picture it, your dog nestled by the fireplace while you prepare a mouthwatering plate of cookies for them to enjoy.
A trip to the doggie spa might be a good option or you could select some of our deluxe bath products and do-it-yourself. Start with a soothing massage and then move onto a warm bath using one of our special shampoos. We have oatmeal shampoo, as well as lightly scented shampoos including Sugar Cane & Grapefruit, Jasmine & Vanilla, Cotton & Fresh Orchid, or Red Berries & Champagne, which seems particularly suitable for a Valentine’s Day spa treatment.
Valentine’s Day is all about love, so another option would be to spread some love to dogs in need. Donate some old towels and blankets to your local pet shelter or bring by a big bag of kibble. You could even donate to your favorite shelter or rescue organization in honor of your sweet dog.
Every day with a dog can be a celebration, so whether you want to celebrate Valentine’s Day, Groundhog Day, your dog’s birthday or maybe just Wednesday, Naked Dog Bistro has an assortment of options to consider.
