While two-legged tourists flock by the thousands to our quaint historic village by the sea, Laguna Beach offers many fun activities for our four-legged friends. A visit to our Laguna Beach pet store is always a good idea, but here are a few other activities that might interest dogs and their human companions.

The Friends of Laguna Beach Dog Park

Did you know that Laguna Beach was the first city in Orange County to create a special park just for dogs? We are a proud sponsor of this wonderful local dog park where dogs of all sizes can run, cavort and mingle safely and securely.

The Laguna Beach Dog Park includes two water fountains and plenty of shade trees, as well as a fenced-in area specifically for smaller dogs. There are also benches and picnic tables where dog parents can relax and socialize. The park is open from 6 a.m. until dusk (closed on Wednesdays) and is located at 20672 Laguna Canyon Road, about two miles from Main Beach.

Other Laguna Beach Dog Park Options

While the “dog park” offers a place where our canine companions can run free as the wind, most of the parks in Laguna Beach are very dog friendly. In Laguna Beach, there is no shortage of amazing parks with spectacular views, but we have a few favorites to recommend.

Heisler Park, located north of Main Beach, offers stunning panoramic views of the coastline and also offers gardens and walking paths where you and your dog (on leash) can enjoy the ocean breezes and the fabulous views. You can even pop into Las Brisas for a couple of margaritas on the patio with your furry friend.

Alta Laguna Park, known by locals as “Top of the World,” affords stunning ocean and canyon views. The trailheads for Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park also are located here, and dogs (always on-leash) are allowed on some of these trails. Be sure to research which trails are dog-friendly as this is a nature preserve so dogs are not allowed on all of the trails.

Dog-Friendly Beach Options

While many of our county and state beaches prohibit dogs, leashed dogs are allowed at most of Laguna’s city beaches. During our high tourist season, from June 15 to September 10, dogs are only allowed on the beaches before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m. During the rest of the year, dogs can enjoy a beach walk with their parents at any time.

Main Beach is always a fun option to consider, especially for first-time visitors to Laguna. There are plenty of other options, some more easily accessible than others. Treasure Island Beach, for instance, which is located adjacent to the Montage Resort, has a small public parking lot and from there you can walk down to the beach.

Crescent Bay Beach is another spectacular option. Parking here can be tricky, but you can hunt for spots around the intersection of Circle Way and Cliff Drive and walk down to the beach. You also can just opt to visit Crescent Bay Point Park, which rests on a bluff above this beach, and you may find parking spots along Via Corsica or Crescent Bay Drive.

Dog-Friendly Eateries

Many restaurants in Laguna welcome well-behaved leashed dogs, especially eateries with outdoor patios. If you want to grab a pint, both Hennessey’s Tavern and Laguna Beach Beer Company can be good options. Hennessey’s is located in downtown Laguna on Ocean Avenue, while the Laguna Beach Beer Company is located on Laguna Canyon Road near where the famous Sawdust Festival is held.

The Cliff Restaurant, located on Pacific Coast Highway next to the Wyland Gallery, is both dog friendly and offers amazing views. Lost Pier Café, which is located at Aliso Beach also allows dogs. The beach itself, unlike some county beach parks, is dog-friendly, although the same seasonal and time restrictions apply as those at Laguna Beach city beaches.

Sapphire, on Pacific Coast Highway, also has a large dog-friendly patio. Lumberyard, just next door to our dog bakery and boutique, is yet another fun option and after you finish your meal, you can pop over to our store for a few yummy organic dog treats. These are just a few of the many dog-friendly spots throughout Laguna Beach.

Visit Our Laguna Beach Pet Store

While Laguna offers a myriad of fun boutiques and galleries, dogs usually tell us that a visit to our dog bakery is the highlight of their visit to Laguna Beach. We offer a unique assortment of enticing dog gifts. Dogs enjoy sniffing around and browsing for toys, a new collar and leash set, CBD for dogs, or perhaps a lovely new dog sweater.

Best of all, we bake homemade dog treats fresh every day in the Naked Dog Bistro kitchen. Pop by and treat your furry friend to a batch of doggie French fries, a dog cupcake or perhaps a doggie donut. All of our treats are gluten-free, grain-free and are made using the finest organic ingredients with no artificial flavors or preservatives. If you live in the area, we also can bake a custom dog cake for your sweet friend and we make our own small-batch fresh dog food.
