It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, at least here in Laguna Beach. Lights are being hung, Christmas ware is displayed in stores and the wafting scent of baked goods is in the air. This is especially true at our Laguna Beach pet bakery, where we bake tasty canine confections every day in our Naked Dog Bistro kitchen.
While tourists flock to Laguna throughout the summer months, the holiday season can be a great time to visit our little village by the sea. Here’s a quick look at what’s going on this season in our area, as well as some enticing options for dog gifts available at our local dog boutique and bakery.
The Sawdust Winter Fantasy Festival
Laguna has always been an artist’s colony, and the Sawdust Festival is a Laguna staple where artisans and craftspeople can display their unique items. During the holiday season, you can enjoy winter-theme art workshops, photos with Santa Claus, a petting zoo and even some falling snow. The festival is open weekends only from Nov. 19-Dec. 18.
The Surfboard Menorah
We do things a little differently in Laguna Beach and Hanukkah is no exception. In place of the traditional Menorah, a unique surfboard Menorah is displayed at Main Beach for, you guessed it, eight wonderful nights.
Holidays At The Laguna Playhouse
Laguna Playhouse is one of the oldest continuously operating community theaters on the West Coast, and this year is offering several holiday-centric performances. “A Cinderella Christmas” is a unique, fun experience for the whole family and it’s interactive. If you prefer a bit more adult options, the playhouse also will feature “The Skivvies: Best in Snow” and the holiday mystery “Sister’s Christmas Catechism.”
Hospitality Night
This fun event is just around the corner! On the first Friday of December, Laguna Beach kicks off the season with a tree lighting and a visit from Santa Claus as well as live music. Laguna Presbyterian (just a few steps from Naked Dog Bistro) will host an art market as well as offering tamales, cookies, cider and plenty of caroling. Many local businesses will be open and participating in the fun.
Holiday Boat Parades
Laguna Beach is snuggled between Newport Beach to the north and Dana Point to the south, and both have wonderful harbor boat parades each year. Dana Point’s parades will be held Dec. 8, 9 and 10 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Newport’s Christmas boat parades run from Dec. 13-17.
